Prop Balancing

I'm going to do a little Ad here for the chapter prop balancing service. If you have not yet done it, you really should! On most planes we can take and balance out all of that vibration you feel as buzzing in your feet and airframe!

This last week I meet up with a couple of new members from Bremerton who are flying their RV-12. Keith Sudac and Bob Brusa came over to Auburn and we put the equipment onto their RV-12.

We did an initial test run of 0.17 IPS when they arrived. What this means is that the engine is moving 0.17 Inches Per Second back and forth on each rotation. Now you know why we have rubber engine mounts! We did 3 runs and were able to get it down to 0.01 IPS. Which is practically ZERO. Most commercial prop shops target 0.10 as the finished goal, we usually go for 0.05 if we can. I've never seen 0.01 on any other one I've done thus far. I think the Rotax 912 along with a composite prop is fairly smooth to begin with.

They were very happy with the results and report it being very smooth in flight post balance. All in all a great result from a couple of hours of work.
